Your Questions About System Security Engineering Services

Donna asks…

Which of these jobs should i choose for the AF?

I scored on a 39, and i qualified for Security Forces, Fuels, Aircrew life support, fire protection, electrical systems, HVAC, services, and flight engineer…but i dont know which one to choose…I have gained some interest in them all…

Should i pick based on how well they are in the civilian world?

InfoTech JobAdmin answers:

This is 100% up to you, but I will give some friendly advice on these jobs seeing as I have done 2 of them. LS and Fuels.

Best for Civilian world after you are out= Fire, HVAC
Lots of demand for qualified HVAC technicans….average pay working on large HVAC systems= $30/hour in civilian world. Fire will give you the experience/quals needed to be a fire-fighter in the civilian world.

Most difficult training of all of these= Flight Engineer(50% washout). A good friend is a C-130 FE, said the training was academically the toughest thing he has ever done(has masters degree as well).

Life support has virtually no civilian equivalent( I currently have a 7 level in this career field). I have been to all the survival schools the AF has, but overall, the job is ok but not much need for survival specialists or parachute riggers in the civilian world.

Security Forces is seeing a lot of people get out for lack of interest in the career-field. 12 hour shifts guarding flight lines/gates, 5 days a week gets old. Higher speed units, like the 820th SF unit is a good gig.

Electrical systems is a good job for some technical training and you get some training that would value you in the civilian world, but overall, no the most exciting career-field out there(friend does this job).

Choose what interests you, but this is my .02 on this question.

Good luck, any job you choose will give you military experience which itself looks good on any resume out there.

Richard asks…

Didnt qualify for job i wanted..USAF…anything i can do?

I scored pretty low on the asvab 39…i been out of high school since ’06…i been in college so i aint take no math class since then, and thats what hurt me a bit…i have 54 college credits and in physical shape, played college and high school ball…

the only jobs i qualified for electrical systems, services, fire protection, security forces, fuels, HVAC, enviromental(whateva that is), and flight engineer…but i would like to do Personeel apprentice…is there any way i can get it besides retesting again.

InfoTech JobAdmin answers:

Your overall score does little to let us know how you really scored. You have 4 individual line scores that determine qualifications for AFSC’s. Some of the jobs you listed are extremely desirable like fire protection, HVAC, and environmental. Flight engineer is a fun job as well. Talk to your recruiter and sharpen up on your G score (that’s where Personnel is). Retake the test after doing some tuning.

Daniel asks…

No logic, there is a way; Yes logic, there is no way?

Don’t you think it’s think and so stupid the way so many people do things?
All classical thought patterns, that which are in tune with what we naturally assume and find automatic is exactly what is not on the menu.

Take NASA.
There was a space craft that launched called Challenger; it took a teacher up into the air like many other shuttle launches have done for countless years. It has rocket boosters, made of a super-strong material, which are plugged together with rubber rings; but because they weren’t actually made and designed by NASA, they trusted another company to built it, who screwed up; and as a result the teacher in the spacecraft died. Why, because it exploded!
Also NASA have other companies built their launch pads.
NASA probably has company create their buildings, stations and so on.
NASA doesn’t actually do all this; which is what I assumed.
That is counter intuitive to me.

Another example; VoIP phone calls, are phone calls that you can place online. I naturally assumed that because I was online, and the line is a telephone line; that this means that using the correct software, it equalsed me being able to phone people with my computer. But there was a problem; you have to user another service provider to place the f**king calls.

Another example; in the care industry (Indepedent living), you have buy your hours from a broker, who takes the sale to you from a seller (another care company), probably so that you do not have to look. Only many service users want to do so and can’t.

Another example; I had an assistive technology assessment from the council, which failed.
They asked me what I want; I could decide now as I had specific needs and needed to be sure what I wanted and that it would be practical. So I wanted to look at the catalouge of items that they sell or give; they do not have this because they buy some stuff from many companies eacg. They do not list all the bought products. They siad that they have never met someone that is interested in the technical devices and how they work; in order to try and work out what they need, because that was thier job. But because they did not know my situation enough, I wanted to do that bit.
I ran out of time, due to planning to look myself and so it all caved in.
It is totally f**ked up.

I have try and aviod third parties, because they f**k things up.
I have engineered by own security system, I operate the files on my computer, and I deal with the technical problems, the viruses and faulty hardware. I do not like people that I don’t know repairing things, I often do it myself. I try and take over as many aspects of my life in this way as I can; otherwise someone will f**k it all up.
I do the science, and the maths and the engineering to get the things I want; and I experiment and plan everything myself. To the piont that it drive other people crazy because they are blocked from helping in way that they think they can; and when they help, they often f**k things up again.
And yes, people are shocked by the amount of things I know about intellectually when it comes to science and engineering.

I am not expecting people to be like me, but for heaven’s sake; why do so many people have so many middle-men, and allow so many systems to take away thier own freedoms? This results in millions of contracts, arguements, f**k ups, lack of cooperation and even as I siad, death!

This method of doing things in life, it makes no sense to me; and I find that I cannot understand any of it. It screws up my head! Someone explain it to me?

CREED
You people have taken what I say to the extremes. It is not like that.
This is a general statement.

InfoTech JobAdmin answers:

1. Why is this in philosophy?
2. The title “No logic, there is a way; Yes logic, there is no way?” has absolutely no relevance to this question.

AND LASTLY

3. I won’t waste my time attacking you for the ridiculous things you wrote above. But I will at least take the time to shut you down on one thing. You say NASA did not build their own building, I’m sorry hun but NASA are not working as engineers or contractors of course they did not build their own building. Also you say NASA did not directly build their own space shuttles. Yes they hire engineers. NASA is a center for RESEARCH.

If people were self sufficiant in everything they did, there wouldn’t BE ANY COMPANIES. Companies are like tee pees, it won’t stand with one stick. It involves several branches supporting one another or else they wouldn’t function.

But go on, do everything yourself. That is wonderful, but do not be posting rants, for the sake or ranting.

NASA is beginning a new program of human exploration. Engineers are already designing new rockets and a new spacecraft

Jenny asks…

Overcharged on security contract,?

I have a small retail business with a rental and maintenace contract for my very basic alarm system with a well known company, for which I get one annual visit at a cost of c£130.
On the last visit of the service engineer a door contact was found to be not working and the engineer replaced it within the one hour allowed for his visit, for which I have now received another invoice for £148 for a minimum 1 hour call-out in addition to the annual charge.
I have payed the second invoice as this included the cost of the part fitted, but have so far refused to pay the annual charge as it is my contention that the fitters time should not be charged twice for the same visit.
On reviewing my copy of the engineers paperwork, I see that he clocked on at 9.30 to carry out routine inspection and found the faulty contact, he clocked off that job at 10.15 and clocked on a new job no. at the same time to fit the contact which he completed at 10.30.
So, although I have a maintenance contract, they don’t actually do any maintenance under the contract, but any faults found are treated as a call out and charged at full call out costs even though the engineer is already on site.
The alarm system is rented from them, should I have to pay to repair faulty parts of their system?
They are now threatening legal action.
Has anyone else had similar problems? or can offer advice.
I should also say that on previous occasions when a faulty part has been replaced, I have only been charged for the part, not an addiotional hour.

InfoTech JobAdmin answers:

Hi..understand your problem and have been in similar situation, suggest you get together all your paperwork that relates to the contract and maintenace work with copies of the timings and ask for a meeting with a manager at the alarm company.

Be firm and very polite and try and get your point across. If they will not budge dont think you have any alternative but to pay. Please remember that your insurance will not be valid unless your alarm is fully serviced and active. Whether you like it or not you need the alarm company.

Paying for the faulty parts will most probably come under wear and tear and general use so you will have to pay.

Try the meeting first, you have a good point with the timings, if anything you can point out how creative the engineer was at getting between two jobs, unless of course he was next door to the job after yours.

Hope you get it sorted.
